Congrats on ep.2 and figuring out FTP by yourselves! Yay! =D Even with all the mic spazzing, it was still a great podcast! It was especially interesting to me when you girls mentioned The Hero with a 1000 Faces because I just started studying that in my Mythology class! Anyway thanks for the awesome podcast and post-podcast entertainment! =^^=
March 20th, 2008 at 2:36 am
Hey! Thanks for answering my e-mail, you three!
Your discussion reassures me a lot. I’d just hate for it to be an automatic thing that Kataang would happen in the end run.
Here’s to wishing for Zutara~! *Cheers* Keep up the good work on the podcasts!

Well, I must disagree with that letter.
Like I learned in my classes of scrit (and all the others), yea, Zutara is the main rule. For to say it in a more easy way for us.
Aang is a mesianic hero; parents dissapeared or dead, raced for a guardian, knows the true being older, he is not ready, he has trioubles, he scapes, he confront his destiny, he has people taht follows him, then he sacrifices things, has an important death or rebirth (probable since is the Aavatar) or survive by miracle.
Zuko is another heroe in this story. But he is not messianic, he is the heroe of the trips (of go and back): he was banished, he is send to a quest, to look for an objetive, his motivation to come back home. Then during his journey, he learns, and undrtand, change his objetctive. When he rturns home, all is different, because he changed, is not his place anymore. So he goes away again, looking for his new aventures, love, and blah blah.
Well, there other cathegories of heroe, but not in this show.
I can tell taht the gaang is a colective heroe ; a group of heroes.
You can say; what is a heroe?
Well, all depends of much things.
But here, since ATLA is a classic narration, the heroe is the one who the camera is always over: Zuko and Aang.
Yea, two heroes.
Zuko is not an anti-heroe, since he has people that wants to kill him too, and he is a heroe too because the camera follows him too. And too, he does heroic things. And what is heroic? Heroic are thimng that no one else does: doesnt matter moral or no morals.
Zuko is a negative heroe (trips), since he is not the sweet and inocent heroe that Aang is, who is the positive one (mesianic).
The point is; Zuko, like his kind heroe code defines; will be king and put order. He will be powerfull. Aang, will gain a saint place, he will be a divinity. He can die, or survive or rebirth. And then, he will go away, to return to his normal life. Like nothing happened.
So, for now, If we analize de script, is more to teh zutara side, but since Katara is always with the gaang and is all maternal, all kataangs said all the “kataang moments”.
Now Zuko being in the team, I think that things will start to shine up.

sorry for all the errors—- lol
March 20th, 2008 at 9:56 am
Rocio- I think we mean anti-hero in the way that he’s opposite of Aang, so like “Anti” Aang XD there are definitely a lot of different names for heroes in stories, but we just focused on these two since they are most dominant
March 20th, 2008 at 10:11 am
Ok, just saying ^^
Other day we better talk about iconic images!!! Like the mercy, or all that ^^
hahaha., just kidding. But better to remember that the scene of Katara holding Aang like the Virgin Mary was great. lol. Is the excatly copiy of that master piece. And is an iconic image tat is used always on the cinema and TV. Very powerfull.
And too; Aang measianic hero, Katara Virgin Mary… mmm.. Obvious! Aside that Katara too; gave “birth” to him, since she was the one waking him up. And she was waiting for the “messias”.
Katara really is a motherly figure.

OMG, this podcast is amazing. It’s perfect, since I’ve currently gone into a major AWS thing. Can’t wait till the next one!
March 20th, 2008 at 3:38 pm

Ahhh…Anti-heroes are awesome. Also I can think of another Anti -hero getting the girl, Hannibal Lector getting Clarice (more in the book ) XD
March 20th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

March 20th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
I can’t thank you all enough for answering my question, I’ve longed to hear it discussed in a forum setting ever since it was birthed in my head, Thanks again, don’t stop the awesomeness!
March 21st, 2008 at 1:00 am
Aah! another great podcast! I never understand why the belief that Aang is the hero, therefore he gets the girl in the end is so heavily clung to, and the discussion in here perfectly illustrates the reason why. That and the thing about Kataang being established fromt the very beginning. I never could believe that thye’d put all that emphasis on the Kataang in the beginning if they were just going to end up with it in the end. It’d just take away some of the magic of actually watching for the entire show if it were set in stone from the beginning!
I really like the connection you made with Toph and Katara feeling guilty, too! And I’ve been suspcious that Bloodbending is going to come back for a while now…
So, um, aside from the spazzing of mics, I loved this week’s edition, even if there was no new news….But it’s good that the dates haven’t been shot down yet, right?
And a HUGE thank you to you guys for featuring Halt Mich Fest! *blushes* That means a whole lot to me to hear what you guys think of it! Oh, and don’t worry, Mon, you got the German pronounciation pretty spot on!
But augh.. I can’t tell you guys how elated I was to have my art featured here, thank you again, and I’ll be listening next week and always!

I love your podcasts. I’m always eagerly awaiting the next one!
“In fiction, an anti-hero is a protagonist who is lacking the traditional heroic attributes and qualities, and instead possesses character traits that are antithetical to heroism.” In that sense, Zuko would be an anti-hero, depending on how you analyze his traits. I really liked your discussion on hero v. anti-hero in terms of “who gets the girl.” I’m always for the anti-hero in that there’s more complexity to the character, and it makes them seem more real.
I also really liked the reference to “The Runaway.” That’s such a good point in regards to why Katara feels the way she does when Zuko reappears to join the group. Plus, Katara’s never opened up to anyone (at least not visibly in the show) the way she did to Zuko. Of course you’d feel angry if you opened up to someone who ends up doing something to betray that trust. Grudges, indeed.
Anyway, love the podcast as usual, chicas. I was supposed to post this comment yesterday when it went up, but I went out to dinner after I listened to it.
Keep up the fantastic work!
~Riz
Oh, and Erica sounds like Mae Whitman in some parts XD If I do an animation, I should hire her to do Katara XD
March 21st, 2008 at 3:24 am
Oh, and at one point when Farah said “Hello?” I almost said “Hello” back XD
March 21st, 2008 at 8:14 am
Riz, if you ever need a Katara, I’m game. LOL I can actually do some pretty good Katara impressions. XDD
March 21st, 2008 at 12:32 pm
I like hearing your predictions and discussions on avatar and zutara. It makes AWS less painfull. I have a question though, do you think that maybe Katara’s new hair style is suppose to look like her mother’s becuase then the villain who killed Sokka’s and Katara’s mother would reconize it and them? Also do you think the boiling rock is not just a two parter because the gang could be trying to get Suki back but to also save Zuko? I think he’ll get captured in part one but saved in part two. This is just a thoery/question of mine. Well have a nice and zutara filled day!
March 21st, 2008 at 6:47 pm
HAHA!!! I’ve finally found a zutara website! Thanx greenifyme for putting it on u’re DA! Anywayz, I thought that it would be a relief not 2 have kataangers on us (i bet they think the same thing ^-^) and that that wuz a very good point given about the hero vs. antihero. Also, i enjoyed having the intro song on there. I think i heard it b4 on utube, dunno. It was this person who made these ‘zutara lessons’. They were very good and thought out (well, a lot of it. The other bit was kinda fangirlish) I think that that person has the best zutara evidence (mostly in the first 3 lessons) that I have ever heard! X-tremely good! Ok! Remember: Zutara- it’s the super-powered ship (blue+red= spiderman and superman colors, get it?)
March 22nd, 2008 at 3:27 am
It’s too bad I don’t know Pride & Prejudice. ^^; I know Wuthering Heights, does that get me any cookies?
March 22nd, 2008 at 3:32 am
…Where did the second half of my comment go!? GAH! Technology hates me, too. Well, what I had said is that “Beautiful Disaster” by Kelly Clarkson is another song that makes me think of Zutara and I had more to say but it’s not showing up now. ;_; Anyways, keep up the great work! (Oh, and as for bloodbending, maybe Katara will use it in an act of rage- even unwillingly- against… I dunno… the person “with a tie to her and Sokka’s past” and feel the need to be forgiven, herself. She’ll definately use it again, though, or they wouldn’t have had her learn it in the first place.)

Hey you guys have some great ideas about zutara and avatar in general and I gotta say listening to these pod-casts definitely helps with my aws, so thanks for doing this.
Your hero vs. anti-hero discussion and some of the reactions from other commenters here has got me thinking about what Zuko’s role in avatar actually is avatar. Technically I’m not sure that he’s an anti-hero in the traditional definition - which is still a hero, but someone with questionable character traits, such as loose morals or destructive tendencies. Zuko technically started as the villain who was revealed to have honorable character traits, so I wonder if he’s more of a “anti-villain.” Just a thought.
You guys talked a little bit about tradition and story lines and setting up stories and if you want to go more into that I recommend tvtropes.com. It lists different themes and devices used in different tv-series and movies.
The avatar section is at this address: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AvatarTheLastAirbender
Thanks for pod-cast. Hope you guys get some sleep some time soon.
